As noted in About Us, this all started when I had a bike being stolen in college. Doug Fattic taught me how to build frames in the late 80's early 90's. But prior to teaching me to build, I had to build a jig as all his were full at the time. I learned alot on that frame, and still have it to this day. A nice steel lugged frame. I went onto build more frames, all in steel. I currently will build lugged or fillet brazed steel frames. A nice fillet brazed one, is just perfect. Actually, a nice lugged one is classic but I am doing more fillet work in steel. You can seem some of my work on the Ukraine Bicycle page gallery as I spent some time there building frames as well. Will go back when I can an get more done and out on the road.
As carbon became more prevelant I began to have an interest in that material. I was able to source a Dedaccai frame kit, tubing, lugs, dropouts. When I was putting it together, something didn't seem right about it. I knew how to build a frame and this one didn't seem to go together the way it should. Well, fast forward to it very first ride. The seat lug cracked, right across the seat tube/top tube junction. After checking into warranty on the kit, I was told I needed to cut out the section and send it back and they would send me a new kit as a replacement. I decided to look at repairing it, as I didn't have an accessible jig at the time. My rudimentary repair held for the rest of the season.
With that knowledge and alot more studying and research, I felt I could build a better bike than that one...so I did. I have primarily been working in carbon since 2005/2006, building and repairing, with repairs being the majority of my work.
If you have an interest or a question, shoot me a note...lets see what we can do for you.
